A Little History About Mount Hope

Mount Hope is located on the Hamilton Mountain near Ancaster. A represented Atlas of Wentworth County, distributed in 1875, portrays Mount Hope as the main town in the municipality. Originally, it was known as Swazie’s Corners, after a Mr. Swazie (Swayze) who ran a hotel on the southwest corner of Homestead Drive and Airport Road. Before long, most likely in the 1850’s, a gathering was held to pick a name for the town. At this gathering, John Renton recommended “Mount Hope” and this name was acknowledged. “Mount” was picked to demonstrate that it was the most elevated point between Lake Erie and Ontario. The second was “Hope” because they hoped that the trusted that pioneers would show up to make a bigger, more prosperous town.

Nothing shall be sticking up past our “FILL LINE” stickers that are placed on both sides of the bin and the back.
