A Little History About Dundas

Dundas, Ontario is an urban community within the City Of Hamilton, which is located at the west end of Lake Ontario. Dundas has a population of about 25,000 people. Dundas was incorporated as a town in 1847. In the 1970s, Dundas residents resisted amalgamation with the town of Ancaster and in the 1990s the residents also resisted amalgamation with the City Of Hamilton. Nevertheless, in 2001, Dundas became part of the new City Of Hamilton, with the residents sending one representative to the city of council. The name “Dundas” was based off of the military road built in 1794 and 1795. Dundas is also known for the nickname “Valley Town” because of its unique location at the bottom of the Niagara Escarpment. Some other things Dundas is also known for is that Dundas has one of Ontario’s oldest municipal buildings, their town hall. Also, every year in August Dundas hosts the Cactus Festival.
